Lesson 1 — What Is Hidden Uruguay? This introductory lesson launches the Hidden Uruguay: Off the Beaten Track project by creating curiosity about lesser-known destinations in Uruguay. Students explore images and maps, describe what they see, express opinions, and formulate questions about places they would like to investigate. The lesson uses Project Zero’s See–Think–Wonder routine to develop observation, interpretation, and inquiry skills, and Kagan Round Robin to promote equal participation in collaborative speaking. Language work focuses on describing places, expressing opinions, giving reasons, and asking questions. Assessment is primarily diagnostic, with the exit ticket providing individual evidence of students’ interests, prior knowledge, and ability to formulate research questions.
